Salmon burgers are a type of burger where the main ingredient is salmon, instead of beef, turkey, or other meats typically used in burgers. We made these salmon burgers using canned salmon! They are incredibly juicy, flavorful, and delicious. We added green onions, dill, and old bay seasoning for even more flavor. The mixture is combined and shaped into patties. Then, the patties are baked in the oven. After that, the salmon patties can be served on buns, like traditional burgers, and topped with our homemade tartar sauce!

  • Green Onions: Slice green onions and use the green parts only. They add so much flavor to the salmon patties.
  • Dill: Add fresh chopped dill for flavor.

What Canned Salmon To Use

These salmon burgers are made using canned salmon! Use canned wild pink salmon that is boneless and skinless. Also, ensure there is no salt added. If your canned salmon contains salt, remove the salt from this recipe. If you don’t have canned salmon, try our tuna burgers with canned tuna!

How To Make Salmon Burgers With Canned Salmon

Step 1: Drain the canned salmon. Then, place it in a large bowl.

Step 2: Add the egg, sliced green onions, chopped fresh dill, Panko, salt, pepper, old bay seasoning, and lemon juice to the bowl with the salmon.

Step 3: Then, mix all the ingredients in the bowl. Ensure they are well combined.

Step 4: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions, and shape each into a patty. Squish the mixture together to form a ball. Each patty is slightly less than 1/2 cup in size.

Then, lightly press down the patty and use your other hand to keep it formed.

Step 5: Place the patties on a sheet pan with parchment paper. Then, bake them in the oven at 375°F for 15-20 minutes.

Step 6: While the patties cook, make the homemade tartar sauce. Thoroughly mix the 0-fat Greek yogurt, light mayonnaise, pickle relish, finely chopped drained capers, salt, sliced green onions, and chopped fresh dill.

Step 7: Once the patties are cooked, let them slightly cool. Then, assemble the salmon burgers. Add a cooked salmon patty to each burger bun, top with tartar sauce, and enjoy!

You can cook the salmon patties for this recipe in many different ways. We baked the salmon patties, but you can choose one of the methods below.

  • Bake: Place the salmon patties on a sheet pan with parchment paper and bake them at 375°F for 15-20 minutes.
  • Air-Fry: You can air fry the salmon patties at 400°F for 8-10 minutes, or until fully cooked.
  • In A Pan: Cook the salmon patties in a pan on the stove over medium-low heat for about 3-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked.
  • On The Grill: You can cook the salmon patties on the grill for a few minutes on each side or until fully cooked through.

Ingredients 

For The Salmon Patties

  • 2, 6 ounce cans of boneless, skinless wild pink salmon, with no salt added
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons green onions, use the green part only
  • 2 teaspoons fresh chopped dill
  • 1/4 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon old bay seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice

For The Tartar Sauce

  • 3/4 cup 0-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon light mayonnaise, optional
  • 2 tablespoons pickle relish
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped capers, drained
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons green onions, sliced, green parts only
  • 1 teaspoon fresh chopped dill

Instructions 

  • Drain the canned salmon. Then, place it in a large bowl.
  • Add the egg, sliced green onions, chopped fresh dill, Panko, salt, pepper, old bay seasoning, and lemon juice to the bowl with the canned salmon.
  • Mix all the ingredients in the bowl until well combined.
  • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions, and shape each into a patty. This recipe makes four patties, each slightly less than 1/2 cup in size. Squish the mixture together to form a ball. Then, lightly press down the patty with one hand and use your other hand to keep it formed. Make sure the patties don’t fall apart, reform them as necessary. Each patty should be about 1/2 inch in thickness.

    I’ve been making salmon patties for years.
    never heard of no salt added to caned salmon.

      The canned salmon we used had no salt added. However, you can still make this recipe even if your canned salmon has added salt. Just omit the additional salt from the recipe. I hope you enjoy the salmon burgers!

      Hello, yes! These salmon patties can be air fried! Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Then, air fry them at 400°F for 8-10 minutes, or until fully cooked, flipping the patties halfway so they cook evenly.     could I use 14.750z can of wild salmon I don’t have 2 6oz cans of salmon
