Servings: 4 servings
- 2 medium onions white, sweet, or brown
- 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon light butter
- 1/4 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon balsamic glaze
- 1 cup 0-fat Greek yogurt
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon fresh chives
- 1 teaspoon milk, or more for a thinner dip optional
Cut each onion in half. Then, make 3-4 lengthwise cuts into each half. From there, slice the onion into 1/4-inch pieces.
Add the butter to a pan over low heat on the stove. Then, add the sliced onions, oregano, garlic powder, pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt (set aside the remaining 1/4 teaspoon) to the pan. Let the ingredients sauté in the pan over low heat to caramelize the onions. Mix the onions occasionally. Be patient and allow the onions to caramelize for 30-45 minutes or until the onions are golden brown.
Once the onions are caramelized, add the balsamic glaze to the pan. Then, mix and continue to caramelize for 1-2 minutes.
Remove the pan from the heat and let the caramelized onions cool.
Add the 0-fat Greek yogurt, Worcestershire sauce, remaining 1/4 teaspoon of salt, chopped chives, and cooled caramelized onions to a bowl. Thoroughly mix these ingredients. Transfer the dip to an airtight container and let it refrigerate for 1-2 hours before serving and enjoy!
- Storage: Store leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
- Caramelize: Allow the onions enough time to caramelize for the best flavor in your dip.
- Greek Yogurt To Use: We used 0-fat Greek yogurt to lighten up this recipe. You could substitute plain 2% Greek yogurt or full-fat Greek yogurt.
- Mayonnaise: To cut some of the tart flavors from the Greek yogurt, add one to two tablespoons of light mayonnaise.
- Balsamic Glaze Substitution: If you don’t have the balsamic glaze, use two teaspoons of balsamic vinegar instead.
- Consistency: For a thinner dip, add one teaspoon of milk or more until you reach the desired consistency.
