BLACKBERRY COMPOTE

This blackberry compote is amazing, and you’ll want to put it on everything! It’s easy to make in about 10 minutes, bursting with flavor, and versatile.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1-2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2-3 teaspoons chia seeds

Instructions

  • Wash and dry the blackberries. Then, add them to a saucepan over low heat on the stovetop.
  • Crush the blackberries with a potato masher to release their juices.
  • Let the mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in the lemon juice, honey, vanilla extract, pinch of salt, and chia seeds.
  • Let the blackberry compote slightly cool before serving.

  • Sweetener Options: You can sweeten this compote with honey, maple syrup, or your sugar-free sweetener of choice.
  • Adjust The Sweetness: Taste the blackberry compote and adjust the sweetness as needed. Start with less honey or sweetener and add more if desired, or none at all, depending on the sweetness of the blackberries.
  • Compote Consistency: Mash the blackberries according to preference. Mash less for a chunkier texture or mash more for a smoother consistency.
  • Let It Thicken: The chia seeds will naturally thicken the compote as it cools. If you’d like a thicker consistency, mix in more chia seeds or let it sit a little longer.
  • Frozen Blackberries Tip: If using frozen blackberries, there is no need to thaw them before cooking, they will break down as they simmer.
