AVOCADO CREMA

This avocado crema is the perfect topping for tacos! It’s made with Greek yogurt and is bursting with the vibrant flavors of avocado, lime, and cilantro.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium-sized ripe avocado
  • 1/3 cup 0-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/8 teaspoon lime zest
  • 1 garlic clove crushed
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1-3 tablespoons milk or water, optional to thin out the consistency of the crema

Instructions

  • Freshly squeeze the lime juice and zest the lime. Also, remove the stems from the cilantro and roughly chop the leaves.
  • Cut the avocado in half and remove the pit. Then, use a spoon to scoop the avocado into a blender or food processor.
  • Add the 0-fat Greek yogurt, lime juice, lime zest, crushed garlic, cilantro, and salt to the blender with the avocado.
  • Thoroughly blend all the ingredients until smooth. As an option, add milk or water to thin out the crema to the desired consistency, and blend again. Then, serve the crema and enjoy!

Notes

  • Greek Yogurt: You can use fat-free, full-fat, or 2% Greek yogurt in this recipe.
  • How To Zest Lime: Use a zester to zest the green part of the lime. Avoid the pith, the white part, as it is bitter.
  • Cilantro Substitution: If you don’t like the flavor of cilantro, you can omit it from this recipe. Or, substitute it with fresh basil or flat-leaf parsley.
  • Make It Vegan: To make this avocado crema vegan and dairy-free, use your favorite plain plant-based yogurt.
  • Storage: Enjoy this avocado crema after making it while it is fresh. If you have leftover crema, store it in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 days.
