This homemade blueberry jam is so good you will want to eat it straight from the jar! It is easy to make in one saucepan and there is no pectin in this recipe!

Course: Breakfast
Cuisine: American
Keyword: blueberry jam, blueberry jam without pectin, homemade blueberry jam
Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh blueberries, or substitute for frozen blueberries
  • 2 teaspoons sweetener of choice
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch of cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons cornstarch

Instructions

  • Wash and dry your blueberries. Then, add the blueberries, sweetener, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt to a saucepan.
  • Place the saucepan over low heat on the stove and let the ingredients simmer for 20 minutes. This will reduce the blueberries and thicken the jam at the same time. Also, reducing it will bring out the flavors of the blueberries.
  • While the jam is simmering, use a spoon to press down the blueberries to crush them. We like our jam chunky but if you want your jam smoother you can crush the blueberries with a potato masher or use an immersion blender, but this is optional.
  • Once the jam has been simmering for 20 minutes, add the lemon juice and cornstarch to the saucepan. Continue to let everything simmer on low heat and stir until the jam has thickened.
  • After the jam has thickened, remove the saucepan from the heat. Then, add the blueberry jam to a heat-resistant airtight jar. Store this jam in the refrigerator for up to a week and enjoy!

Notes

  • Blueberry Chia Jam: If you don’t want to use cornstarch, you can use 3 tablespoons of chia seeds instead. Just let the blueberries simmer and add the chia seeds at the end.
  • Make Sugar-Free Blueberry Jam: You can make this recipe sugar-free if you use a sugar-free sweetener or omit the sweetener altogether if your blueberries are sweet enough.
  • Storage: Store leftover blueberry jam in a sealed airtight jar or container in the fridge for up to one week.
