Ingredients

  • 1 pound raw large shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails off
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon chipotle chili powder or chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 garlic cloves crushed
  • lime wedges for serving
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 sliced green onions
  • 12 tortillas
  • cabbage slaw or lettuce optional
  • avocado crema optional
  • pineapple salsa or mango salsa optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  • Peel and devein the raw shrimp. Also, ensure the tails are removed. Then, rinse them under cold running water. After that, pat them dry with paper towels.
  • Add the shrimp to a large bowl. After that, add the olive oil, thyme, oregano, cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and crushed garlic to the bowl.
  • Thoroughly mix to season the shrimp in the bowl.
  • Add the seasoned shrimp to the air fryer basket in a single layer, don’t overcrowd the basket. If necessary, cook the shrimp in batches.
  • Air fry the seasoned large shrimp in the preheated air fryer at 400°F for 6-7 minutes or until fully cooked. To ensure the shrimp cook evenly, shake the basket halfway through.
  • As an option, warm the tortillas before serving. Once the shrimp is air-fried, add three pieces of shrimp to each tortilla. Then, top with your favorite toppings such as shredded lettuce or cabbage slaw. Or, try our avocado crema and pineapple salsa or mango salsa. Also, top with chopped fresh cilantro and sliced green onions, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Don’t Overcook Shrimp: Be careful not to overcook the shrimp. You don’t want them to become rubbery. However, ensure they are fully cooked before eating them. You can use a meat thermometer to check if they are fully cooked.
  • Avoid Overcrowding: Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket with the seasoned shrimp. Ensure there is enough room for the shrimp to cook evenly and for the air to circulate. If necessary, depending on the size of your air fryer basket, cook the shrimp in batches.
  • Shake Halfway: Shake the air fryer basket halfway through so the shrimp cook evenly.
  • Shrimp: If you have jumbo shrimp or extra large shrimp, increase the cooking time by 1-2 minutes, or until the shrimp are fully cooked. Or, if you have small shrimp, reduce the cooking time slightly.
  • Crema Substitution: You can substitute the crema with sliced avocado or guacamole.
  • Substitution For Tortillas: If you are looking for a low-carb option and don’t want to use tortillas, assemble these tacos in lettuce wraps.
  • Storage: Store the crema, salsa, and air-fried shrimp in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.
